With a capacity of 17,190 seats for basketball fans, and 15,237 for ice hockey-lovers, the Center can be rearranged to accommodate a basketball court, a hockey rink, or a concert. The center has three levels: One floor and two balconies, holding about 7,500 and 4,500 people respectively.

The Kohl Center boasts the highest attendance in NCAA Men's Hockey. But, it was not until during the 2004-2005 season, the facility gained much fame when the men's basketball team's 38-game home win streak came at the hands of the No. 1 ranked University of Illinois. This winter, the Badger Women's hockey team with a record of 22-1-3 was by far the most successful tenant of the Kohl Center. Also to the interest is the fact that the Kohl Center has become exceptionally difficult for opposing teams to play in. And it is evident that at the end of the 2006-2007 season, the Men's Basketball Team had achieved a record of 125-11 at the arena, with only 5 losses between 2001 and 2007.

You really don't have to be a basketball fan or ice-hokey lover to get a ticket to the Kohl Center, there is an array of exciting events the arena features for you! Other events held within the Kohl Center during the school year and summertime are concerts, ice skating shows, career fairs, political gatherings, and conventions and commencement ceremonies for both the UW as well as Madison high schools. Some top touring musical acts featured at the facility are Phish, Bon Jovi, Tim McGraw, and Faith Hill to name a few. Internationally acclaimed Dave Matthews Band, Bob Dylan and others have also stepped onto the stage at the Kohl Center over the years.

Additionally, the Kohl Center is a regular host to the annual Varsity Band Spring Concert since 1975. The Varsity Band Spring concert has grown into a three-night extravaganza over the years. Today, the event draws in almost 25,000 fans. Visitors to the Kohl Center can also enjoy color-filled blown glass artwork by Dale Chihuly. A former UW student, Dale Chihuly is now a world-renown glass artist. After seeing the event, you might want to hang around eateries, food vendors or taverns.
